Bagginshield Fic Recs- Part 1 (Sorry I took so long with this! I had intended to make my own animation to go with it, but I did not have the time. I’ll try to for the next one!)
Summary: All of the dwarves survive the Battle of the Five Armies, but Bilbo must return to the Shire to sort out his old life and make way for a new one in Erebor. Over one year later, Bilbo comes back to the Lonely Mountain with a recently orphaned Frodo. King Thorin isn’t quite sure what to make of this new, tiny addition to his Company. Slow build.
Notes: This fic is absolutely adorable. As stated in the summary the Bagginshield builds up slowly, but it’s so worth it for the interactions between Frodo and the other dwarves- and it makes the Bagginshield moments feel more rewarding. (imo)
Summary: In a Middle Earth where dwarves dream of Heartsongs and hobbits carry the name of their fated partner as private Mark, Bilbo Baggins had never been able to properly translate the strange rows of runes inscribed on his wrist.
And likewise, Thorin Oakenshield had never imagined he would hear the voice of his Heartsong from a fussy little gentlehobbit.
Notes: Oh my goodness I am enjoying this fic so much. I love soul-bonding stories, so if you enjoy those kinds of things, this is definitely for you. (Also, there is a lot of awkward Thorin, which is fun to read.)
Summary: In an alternate reality, Erebor was never taken by Smaug, and the War of Dwarves and Orcs never happened. The Orcs invaded the Shire, slaughtering hundreds and taking countless more as slaves. Bilbo is slave to Azog, the Dwarf King’s mortal enemy… until the Dwarf King rescues him.
Notes: This fic is very dark. It’s not for everyone, but I personally think it is a very fascinating, well-told story thus far. It’s very suspenseful, and it has made me cry at least twice. Fair warning, there is some non-con early on in the story. If you think this would trigger you I wouldn’t recommend reading, because it can be quite graphic.
Summary:Small stories set along the journey to Erebor, about a king without a mountain, an honest burglar, and the fine company they keep.
Notes: I’m really loving this. It’s told from Thorin’s point of view, which is very interesting.
Summary:On a cold night on their journey, Bilbo finds some unexpected, but possibly welcome, company beside him.
Notes: This fic is just plain adorable. It tugs on my shipper heart like crazy. (And is also the first Bagginshield fic I started reading.)
Summary: "They had never met before, to the best of Tom’s recollection, but there was something eerily and inexplicably familiar about William Baggins all the same." Modern AU, reincarnation, Thorin Oakenshield/Bilbo Baggins romance, happy ending.
Notes: Gah, this fic is awesome. I was a little hesitant upon reading the summary, but the concept is executed wonderfully.
Summary:In which Bilbo is unexpectedly injured, Thorin is terrible at showing his emotions, Kíli and Fíli fail at spying and the other dwarves appear only briefly because for Durin’s sake someone needs to be focused on this quest!
Notes: This is beautifully written, and Fili and Kili are hilarious.
Summary: In Rivendell, Bilbo Baggins receives a golden necklace from a certain dwarf, thus causing him to learn much more about dwarven courtship than he’s ever bargained for. And as they soon realize, curiosity and worse has taken both sides, thus changing the very fabrics of their journey.
Notes: My adoration for this fic is intense, man. It’s not suspenseful in the “butt-tons of action” kind of way, but it still has me sitting on the edge of my seat, so to say. It’s not updated as often as I’d like, but it’s worth the wait whenever a new chapter is put up.
Summary: After the events of the Battle of Five Armies, Bilbo writes letters to the fallen king to cope.
Notes: Oh my god. This fic stomped on my heart and made me cry, but it was beautiful.
Summary:One drowsy August evening, a dwarven king wanders into the Shire and knocks on a familiar green door. “I knew you for a few bleak months and thirty years later I wake up wishing that you were beside me. I am surrounded by my kin and kingdom, but even in Erebor I am lonely for you.”
Notes: This story is very light and fluffy, and it includes bb! Frodo, which is always a great addition.
Summary: The adventure doesn’t end after the Battle of Five Armies. Bilbo lingers in Erebor while Thorin recovers from his wounds, and soon finds himself caught up in politics, romance, and the occasional kidnapping. Ensemble cast. AU. Eventually Thorin/Bilbo.
Notes: Oh goodness, I love this. It’s very realistic, and heartbreaking in some areas. I like that the politics of everything after the battle is such an integral part of the story, and I feel like if Thorin had survived the battle, things would have gone much like this.
Summary: In an alternate universe, Bilbo Baggins and Thorin Oakenshield find a way to fall back in love with the help of a very unexpected type of magic. Contains both depressing and fluffy Thilbo Bagginshield feels.
Notes: This tugs on my heartstrings in all the right way. I really love the parallels drawn in this AU, and I’m excited to see where it goes.
